| The WindMiller Band Big Band rebranded, but remains rooted in swing era sounds The WindMiller Band started its new era in 2013 with a repertoire emphasizing swing music of the big band era. The group’s name accentuates and emphasizes its enthusiasm for the Glen Miller sound that features a clarinet lead. Also captured in its name is the band’s The current band comprises five reed players, eight brass section members and a rhythm section of three. The band’s leader is saxophonist, Ken McLagan. He is a music graduate of Western University and well known among the city’s musician community. As the leader of the WindMiller Band, he is committed to the band playing Big Band arrangements, Latin favorites and show tune medleys. Performing is the priority for the WindMiller Band. The band’s objective is to provide local and regional audiences with well-played tunes reminiscent of the time when swing was king. That is, music reminiscent of that enjoyed in the pre and post World War II era at places such as the Stork Club in Port Stanley or London’s Wonderland Gardens. The band’s book features arrangements by the swing era greats – Art Dedrick, Johnny Warrington, Glenn Osser, Sammy Nestico and Dave Wolpe - as well as local arrangers, John Montgomery and John Tenkate. Tenkate, along with Hank Uitvlucht before him, lead the band in its earlier incarnation as the Dykehoppers.
